Are you a Nigerian international student currently pursuing your undergraduate or postgraduate studies in the United States? Do you sometimes feel the emotional distance from your family back home, wishing for a supportive presence to guide you through your academic journey and cultural adjustments?
The Lil & Fred Okotie Foundation is proud to announce the commencement of its new initiative: Student Counsellin-USA, also known as "Meet Uncle Fred." This program is specifically designed to provide essential support and guidance to Nigerian international students, helping to mitigate the emotional challenges of studying abroad without biological parents residing in the US.
Who Can Participate?
To be eligible for this invaluable program, you must meet the following criteria:
Be a Nigerian international student.
Be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate program at a US university or its equivalent.
Not have biological parents residing in the United States.
Commit to participating in a monthly 1-hour Zoom meet-and-greet session, scheduled for the first Monday of every month at 8:00 PM.
What to Expect:
These sessions offer a unique opportunity to connect with "Uncle Fred" and fellow Nigerian students. It's a safe and supportive space where you can share social, academic, and other challenges you might be facing. The program aims to foster collective counseling, peer interaction, and a sense of community, ensuring you feel supported every step of the way.
